Hi
you're looking for something in Fribourg?

Fribourg in a few words

fribourg.

The canton of Fribourg is a Swiss canton since 1481. It is located in the North of the country and belongs either to the French-speaking part of Switzerland as well as to the German-Speaking part of Switzerland. Its population adds up to 311 800 residents, of which 68% speak French.

Gastronomy

Fribourg fondue

Due to its recipe, which solely contains the „Vacherin fribourgeois”(cow’s milk cheese), the canton has the lovely nickname „Country of the Fondues”.

Geography

Fribourg Gruyeres Moléson

From the geographical side, Fribourg is known for the biggest man-made barrier lake, the Greyerzersee.

An heritage

Fribourg ville

With a number of 25 museums this canton is full of cultural heritage. Not forgetting to mention the most important sight of Fribourg’s historic center: the grand fountains, which were all built by the sculptor of the 14th century, Hans Gieng.

Living traditions

Fribourg folklore

One if its traditions, which is fixed in the regional history, is taken seriously by all residents of Fribourg: the singing tradition. In fact, one out of 35 residents is member of an organized choir.  The “Cow ring-a-ring” (ranz des vaches) is one of the traditional vocals, which is a bubbly Swiss tradition and tells an a-capella story about the job of the Swiss Alpine herdspeople.
